#Linsanity

This was my entry for NYT's Linsanity t-shirt design contest. I'm no designer, but I had fun with this. Definitely not my usual style!

The prompt was: What does Linsanity look like? The jagged line is the mid-February spike in google searches + spiky Asian hair :)

Not sure it works as a shirt though! Would you wear this? More importantly, check out the contest winners here and vote for your favorites!

Subway Sketch of Lovers Sleeping

From my sketchbook, a quick doodle of lovers sleeping on the R Train. It was a sweet moment when all was right with the world :)

A Status Message a Day #70

Here's a quick sketch from this morning. Some days, you just gotta keep moving.

I'm not crazy, but I do occasionally give pep talks to stuffed animals :)

A Status Message a Day #69

I ran out of time to compose a new cartoon, so here's a page from my sketchbook -- inspired by the artist JR's project, Wrinkles of the City, Los Angeles edition. You can watch it here on HuffPo (approx. 12 minutes). I grew up in a sleepy suburb of L.A. and this makes me see the place with new eyes.

If you haven't experienced his past projects, I highly recommend watching his TED Talk. JR was the 2011 TED Prize winner.

The Twitter Matrix

I like that anything can happen in cartoons. Except my feet still don't touch the ground.

Live Doodling Social Media Week

I'm working on a fun cartoon, which I'm hoping will be ready to post by this evening. In the meantime, I want to share this cool shout-out on the Muckrack blog because it totally made my day:

"Check out this awesome 'live doodle' Connie Sun well, doodled, of social media editors speaking at the 'Challenging Conventional Wisdom of Social Media' panel at last week’s Social Media Week in New York City."

Thanks for the awesome mention, Muckrack! I feel honored :)

The Dating Pool #5

And by more flowers, I mean more dates! This one's for all the single women in New York who aren't getting dates due to the epic stupidity of men. Thoughts? Feel free to retort ;)

Anthony Shadid Tribute

I attended a panel at the Columbia J-School last night where fellow journalists took a few moments to remember and pay tribute to the generosity, caring, and insight that Anthony Shadid demonstrated in life and in his reporting. My heart goes out to his family.

In his interview with Terry Gross back on NPR's Fresh Air back in December, he said that it's important for journalists to be out there "especially as events unfold around us." He went on to say that there are "so fewer people who do [war reporting] these days -- compared to 15 years ago -- that it takes on even greater importance."

Social Media Overload

Some days I feel like an ostrich.

Ran out of time to color, but you get the idea. Happy Friday!

A Status Message a Day #68

You ever get that nagging feeling that you're supposed to be more responsible than you are?

Angry Cupids

Happy Valentine's Day! Watch for those angry, vindictive cupids!

(This is funnier if you know the phenomenon of Angry Birds. And also if you share my mild disgust of the holiday ;)

A Status Message a Day #66

Brace yourselves, fellow singles...It's almost Valentine's Day. Don't leave home without a bear.

This is an old sketch that I updated for the occasion ;)

Every Asian Man's Dream

According to my brother, Jeremy is fulfilling every Asian man's lifelong dream. Long live the #linsanity!

A Status Message a Day #65

This one was in my scrap heap, but I'm posting it anyway.

Might I add that ice cream is also an excellent therapist. But who needs therapy? Crazy is more fun.

A Status Message a Day #64

Sketching at the Met! What I learned: there are few things as enjoyable as attempting to draw 3rd century pygmies. If you look close, there's a crocodile is eating a mule. More drama than the Discovery Channel ;)

A Status Message a Day #62

This is what I've learned since picking up a pen. It was lesson hard-won, but the journey is never for nothing.

Bamboo Socks For Sale

I don't know what bamboo socks are, but I can use my imagination.
