What is the conflict? For me it was the freedom to express myself whenever I wanted versus the joy of sharing life with someone else's inputs and desires.
When I finally found someone, my creativity took a major hit. I was far less inclined to makes things because I was so wrapped up in gathering experiences I wouldn't do on my own. I'm starting to re-balance my experiences and creativity again, buy I doubt I will ever reach a steady state. One will always be winning at the moment, but that is life.
The good news is that I am a lot less neurotic about both, now.

Find someone who helps you be free and independent?
Give it a try! At least experience it, then decide to stay or get out.
