I remember in the 1970s, girls at my highschool were forced to wear swim caps "because our hair would clog the drains." I wore very, very short hair, and many boys had hair down to their shoulders or more. Went to a Student Council meeting with the principal and asked why I had to wear a cap, when the boy sitting next to me at the meeting, with hair down below his shoulders did not. Does men's hair not clog the drains? I asked. Surprise, surprise--no more swim caps for girls, instead of making the guys wear them too. I was happy, because wearing a cap always gave me a terrible headache.
