Anti-Asian Hate Crimes On Top Of Everything Else

Because of the recent spike in violence and discrimination against Asians, these are sad and difficult conversations that many of us in communities of color have had to have throughout the pandemic - about hate - on top of everything else.

As a reference point, this is a 2016 diary comic I drew in a different time.)

If you witness a hate crime, you can report it here https://stopaapihate.org

Thanks for reading

Its one thing for me to read headlines, but the details provided by the victims and their families hit home.

Your cartoon is another way to hit home. I recall the strip where your father commented that "my eyebrows are not that white yet".

My best to the both of you.

The cancel culture is made worse by this "let's find a scapegoat" aspect. The herd mentality: if it's different, kill it.
The other day I was talking to a student I tutor who just turned 17 and I said, "I'm glad I'm going out, not coming in." She asked me what I meant. I'm nearly 60, so my time here is limited, I'm "on the way out." Her eyes got big and she almost-whispered, "What about me?"

What indeed. Do better than we did, Maria.
