Some of the world's best literature was born out of sweat and tears and sleepless nights. Whatever you are working on is worth the effort, and worth reading!
Sounds like you are writing about things close to your heart. You must have "skin in the fire" something to admire in writers and the books they produce.

I was wandering in Barnes and Noble when I saw George Takei's memoir on his life in the "relocation" camps during World War II--the graphic novel version. Amazing drawings. You might want to check it out if you haven't already.
