It feels like "prove me wrong" is our collective vibe as a society these days. Anxieties aside, I hope you have a calm weekend.
Thanks for reading. Connie on Ko-fi
[Single-panel comic of a cartoon girl, hair in a bun, bursting through an office door with a look of dramatic defiance. The caption reads, "Me, walking into therapy like - BAM!!" while giant, confrontational speech bubbles dominate the composition and read, "ALL MY ANXIETIES ARE CORRECT! PROVE ME WRONG!" I've learned to avoid online news sources. Half the time they contradict themselves in a few days' time. The rest of the time it's obvious they just want to stir up a little hysteria. I ask myself, "Can I do anything about this?" If the answer is "no", I stay in my lane.
Connie: I went for my daily exercise on a local trail when I came across a "Little Library Book Depository". You may have seen these---they contain books on various topics, and people passing by are invited to take a book--leave a book.
I found a copy of "Why We Swim" by Bonnie Tsui. I know that you have drawn cartoons of yourself swimming at various pools. You might find the book interesting. Bonnie is also the author of "American Chinatown, a History of Five Neighborhoods".
I am looking forward to reading this and giving it to my wife who is the real swimmer in the family.
Stay cool in this heat! My walk was tougher than I thought.
I saw this small coin purse and thought of you. I don't know you but I enjoy your cartoons, and I hope this coin purse makes you smile.
xo,
Allison
